Truck hijacked in Blackheath

BLACKHEATH – Hijackers escape with a truck loaded with cigarettes.

An unknown armed gang hijacked a van delivering cigarettes to a petrol station on Beyers Naudé Drive, Blackheath, on the morning of 12 August. Police say they were alerted after shots were fired at the truck carrying the merchandise in full view of the garage employees but no injuries were reported.

Fairland Police spokesperson Constable Michael Kgatla said that the suspects drove away in a silver Golf GTI 7 but added that a white Ford Bantam was also used in the attack. He added that the truck was being escorted by security guards when the hijacking happened.

He said that thus far no arrests have been made but added that the police would investigate further. He urged members of the community to come forward if they had any information about the robbery.
