Wheelchair Tennis SA applauds SPAR gsport nominees

WESTDENE - Kgothatso ‘KG’ Montjane nominated for SPAR gsport Award.

Wheelchair Tennis South Africa congratulated Kgothatso ‘KG’ Montjane on 5 August, for being nominated for the athlete of the year with disability for the SPAR gsport Awards. The Westdene resident, and SA’s top ranked women’s player, has been nominated along with Ilse Hayes-Carstens and Rosebelle Riese.

Montjane has maintained her position in the top 10 women wheelchair tennis players in the world for the past four years, and secured key results over the past year, which moved her into the top eight once more. Montjane recently made headlines after she claimed the Swiss Open and the Belgian Open doubles title.

Her major achievements this year include reaching the singles final of the Airports Company South Africa Open, and clinching the doubles event. The world number eight reached the singles semi-finals of the Melbourne Open, won the doubles, and won the singles and doubles events at the Queensland Open, in January 2015.

“We are very proud of our players and the coach, it is once again a wonderful reflection on the player’s performance and the coach’s hard work”, said Wheelchair Tennis South Africa general manager Karen Losch.
