LINDEN – Police, City of Johannesburg's Emergency services and neighbours respond to the house on fire on 2nd Avenue.

A house caught on fire on 2nd Avenue in Linden, on 31 July, while the home owner was being buried on 31 July.

The street was blocked by police vehicles and City of Johannesburg’s emergency services who attended to the scene as neighbours looked on. Bystanders were visibly shocked.

According to an eye witness who lives in the area, he saw smoke and rushed over with his fire extinguisher. “When I got here, the house was burned down already and there was nothing I could do,” he said.

Another resident who claimed to be a close friend of the family said, “I am really broken, it is shocking and ironic that the owner is being buried now as we speak and his house just burned down.”

According to EMS spokesperson Nana Radebe they received the call at 11:43am and they arrived on scene by 11:48, however the damage was already done.

Radebe said they are not certain when the fire started.

“When we got here the roof had already collapsed,” she said. She also said there was a maid in the house and fortunately she was not hurt,” Radebe said.

Cause of the fire is unknown.
