115 artists presented by UJ Arts and Culture

AUCKLAND PARK – Works of talented artists will be presented by University of Johannesburg at the Arts Gallery.

Artists from all walks of life will be brightening up the University Of Johannesburg Art Gallery from 1 July until 5 August.

An exhibition entitled Twenty: Art in the Time of Democracy, which features 115 artists will be presented by UJ Arts and Culture at the Art Gallery in Auckland Park.

According to the curator of the Art Gallery at the Kingsway Campus Annali Cabano-Dempsey, senior lecturer at UJ and curator for this show, Gordon Froud, incorporated a broad range of works by established and emerging South African artists addressing their experiences of the first 20 years of democracy in the country.

“Froud originally curated this show for the Appalachian State University Turchin Centre in North Carolina in 2014, which, on its return was exhibited at the Pretoria Art Museum,” she said.

A selection from this exhibition, co-curated by Professor Karen von Veh from UJ will be shown at the sixth Beijing International Art Biennale later this year.
