Melville Resident’s Association speaks

MELVILLE – The Melville Resident's Association discusses issues and developments in the area.

Co-chairperson of the Melville Resident’s Association (MRA) Andrew Marais is optimistic that Melville is on the up and up in terms of recent developments set to improve the surrounding neighbourhood.

Marais wanted residents to be aware that the association has been working very hard in improving the state of Main Road. “The association does realise that pressing for improvements in Main Road is a long-term plan. We feel that we are making progress in the matter of keeping institutions within the road in check with appropriate retail practices,” he said.

Other developments that the association has been involved in has been the installation of fibre-optics within the area. The purpose of this installation is to increase the data transference infrastructure. “We have been running a campaign to raise awareness of the fibre installations within our area,” he said.

Marais explained that the fibre installation is also aimed at getting more businesses involved within Melville. “The association hopes to have an open-network fibre installation, which will allow residents and business owners to connect to the network with their own internet service providers,” he said.

He also wanted to remind residents that end of term for the association will be the end of June. “We want to make residents aware, that our election time for the end of term is set to happen by the end of June. We want to get more residents involved in electing their representatives for the association,” he concluded.
