Melville Bussiness Association to reassess security

MELVILLE – Concerns surrounding secuirty agreements have been discussed by members of the Melville Bussiness Association.

The Melville Business Association (MBA) recently met with representatives of CSS Tactical regarding security measures and agreements for business owners in the suburb.

The representatives present at the meeting were chairperson of the association Clyde Terry, and members Natasha Coetzee, and Eleanor Di Pasquale. They were met by the security company’s spokesperson Ashley Parry.

The purpose of the meeting was to review an agreement that was originally signed by the business association and the security company last year, and determine if the association could distance themselves from the existing Melville Security Initiative (MSI)

The purpose of the MSI was to provide an organisation that would deal with outstanding security issues and concerns in Melville,

Terry explained that the association’s decision to detach themselves from the initiative came from the reluctance of the initiative to utilise funds collected. “The association have become concerned that the MSI have never met any of the commitments of implementing these measures of installing and maintaining these surveillance strategies in Melville. This has really slowed the initiative down, because it should be leaps and bounds ahead of where it is now,” he said.

Terry explained that any new business belonging to the association would be bound to pay an additional R50 per month with their chosen security (primarily the above-mentioned security company), which would be given to the association.

The purpose of the R50 contribution per business is to assist the association to build up funds for environmental concerns such as graffiti and potholes. “These are things for which we as an area would like to have funds to be able to address,” he said.
