Evening of art and glam

NORTHCLIFF – Art expert impressed with creativity of pupils of Abbotts College in Northcliff.

On 21 May the Abbots College Senior High School held an Art and Design Expo.

According to art expert and speaker Eugene Hon, the evening focused on art and design and how people can incorporate art into their lives every day.

“Art is created on a daily basis by pupils as they decide what to wear when they go out into the world – this projects an image of them toward other people,” said Hon.

He explained that this can either be good or bad.

“The problem nowadays is the internet and social media. It’s so easy for children and adults to target each other on social media platforms regarding what they wear and this can be a nightmare,” said Hon.

Continuing the theme of pupils dressing-up, the main goal of the evening was for each pupil to create a dress from re-usable materials.

“It was amazing to see what the pupils achieved by taking normal materials and turning them into something functional and also stunning to look at. I was surprised by every pupil’s effort and I congratulate the school for an excellent evening.

“It just goes to show that anyone, anywhere can create art by using whatever they have at their disposal,” concluded Hon.
