Pupils’ upcoming happy ever after

LINDEN – Franklin D Roosevelt Primary pupil Jo-Ann Mauze will be performing in the Joburg People's Theatre production of 'Shrek'.

A pupil from Franklin D Roosevelt Primary in Roosevelt Park, Jo-Anne Mauze has stars in her eyes since she received news that she had been chosen to portray various characters in the JHB People’s Theatre production of Shrek: The Musical.

These roles include papa bear, Duloc citizen and a rat.

Mauze explained her reasons for auditioning, “I really want to be involved in music and singing, and I feel that this opportunity will give me a good taste of that.”

Principal at Franklin D Roosevelt Primary Hilton Westlake was very impressed with Mauze opportunity to be on the stage. “This is tremendous news. Our goal here at the school is to try and get our children to achieve in areas where they won’t normally achieve. We are incredibly proud of Mauze’s achievement and we are confident that she will do the school proud,” he said.

Westlake also pointed out that the school’s music teacher, Henry Merckel, was instrumental in getting the pupils involved in auditioning for the roles at the theatre. Merckel explained that the pupils were very interested in being part of the auditioning process. “The pupils really showed interest in auditioning for the production, and I was really taken aback when I received the news that Mauze was selected. I couldn’t be more happier for her,” he said

Shrek: The Musical is set show at the Joburg People’s Theatre from 1 June to 2 August.
