GALLERY and VIDEO: DSJ and McAuley House against xenophobia
MILPARK – Pupils from McAuley House School and the DSJ have come together to stand up against xenophobic violence.
McAuley House School and the Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) gathered together to participate in a silent protest campaign entitled ‘Kwanele-Kwanele’ (Enough is Enough!) which stands against woman and child abuse as well as the recent spate of xenophobic violence in South Africa.
Pupils and teachers from the two schools gathered outside their respective premises, where they displayed boards and placards urging motorists to hoot against all forms of violence and xenophobia.
Principal at McAueley House School, Eleanor Hough is proud to have her pupils involved in another successful peaceful protest action. ” I started this initiative three years ago, and it is still as relevant as ever. My pupils and staff feel very strongly for these causes. We are all Africans and must stand by our fellow Africans against violence of any kind.”
Hough went on to explain that they were very blessed to have their neighbouring school, DSJ, involved with their awareness campaign.
Teacher at the DSJ, Angela Schaefers was pleased with the support shown during the ‘Kwanele-Kwanele’ protest. “We all wish that we could do more to support those that have been victimised by violence. We always join in with McAueley House during their silent protests. We believe that we must be doing something constructive, we must take a stand against violence together,” she said.
