EMMARENTIA – Some wagging dogs' tails and brushing whiskers hailed upon Emmarentia Dam.

Wags and Whiskers Rescue Team held a picnic for a good cause at Emmarentia Dam on 19 April.

The team of volunteers work tirelessly to support the abandoned animals in the Randburg, Fourways, Midrand and Melville areas. They cater to any animal related problem from sterilisation to foster care and veterinary issues. They recently called on ‘supawters’ to attend their picnic and bring along donations of food and blankets. There was a reasonable turnout with all donation being a big help.

Team member Cheyna Seaton said, “Often we get very lucky when kind members of the community offer their support by fostering some furry friends. We rely heavily on donations of food, time, blankets and funds.”

The group has some dogs up for adoption. In special need however, is the bull mastiff. They previously had two but since then one has been adopted.

In other areas they have many cats and kittens that desperately need homes. According to another member, Robyn Sayers, very often the cat mother and her kittens are dropped off together, and the kittens are “adopted a lot quicker.”
