Water outage fury

EMMARENTIA – Water outage catches residents off-guard.

Ward 88 Councillor Pat Richards responded to upset residents in Emmarentia, after their water was cut off from 9 am on 8 April.

“The residents are really angry that they were not informed about the outage. They have been caught off-guard as they could not prepare prior to the water being cut off. I, as a ward councillor, was not informed about this. I have contacted the Region B manager as to why I was not informed.”

Johannesburg Water external communications officer in marketing and communications Eleanor Mavimbela said, “It is a planned water outage and it is running from 9 am until 6pm. This is for an infrastructure upgrade. We usually make those affected aware of planned outages through our website, social media pages as well as written notices seven days prior to the outage.”

She added, “We acknowledge that our system is not entirely perfect and we use as many avenues as possible to get our message across regarding planned outages. We apologise for any inconvenience to those who did not receive the notices.”
