WESTDENE – 'Ballade vir 'n Enkeling' is making all the right moves at the box office.

South African film industry is shaping up for the better.

The country’s very own Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling has just secured a second place at the box office since its release on 20 March.

Over the opening weekend, 27 500 people went to watch the film and the movie lovers contributed directly to the opening weekend a figure of

R1 358 075.

“I knew people would flock to the cinemas out of curiosity and we exceeded their expectations with the beautiful execution of the story and high standard of film making,” said Ronalda Marais who stars in the film.

The Westdene resident said she loves being part of the film industry in this country at this moment in time. “We have so many original stories waiting to be told,” she said.

Marais also added that the country has a beautiful unique flavour that needs to be celebrated, and copying Americans is the biggest mistake some film makers make.

The local talent also stated that the country can always rely on them to deliver the best.

“As an Actor I will always bring my A game and work with as much honesty, sincerity and heart as possible – each character I portray deserves to be researched and understood to the core of their being,” said Marais.

Producer of the film, Danie Bester also said, “It is a great honour when the public reacts in such a positive manner over the opening weekend. The feedback is fantastic and I would like to encourage everyone out there to go and experience Ballade in a theatre near you.”

Tsotsi

The movie portrays the life of a gangster named Tsotsi (Presley Chweneyagae). Tsotsi and his gang of thugs cheeped around the streets of Johannesburg stealing and attacking people. After casually shooting a woman and stealing her car, he discovers her baby in the back seat. Instead of harming the baby, he takes it home and cares for it. The child acts as a catalyst for the thug to regain his humanity.

Hear Me Move

South Africa’s first dance film looks at the life of a young man named Muzi (Nyaniso Dzedze), whose father was a legendary Pantsula dancer who died tragically in a knife fight at a party.
