JOBURG – Don’t let the name sway you – this homemade remedy is fantastic!

If you use it, you will love it. Pre-pooing is the act of conditioning your hair 30 minutes prior to shampooing. Hair can become coarse and brittle, especially curly hair but pre-pooing delivers a blast of moisture to your scalp and hair. It also protects your hair from being stripped of its natural oils, when you do shampoo. It untangles hair and is especially helpful for people who do not brush their hair due to their tight curls.

The reasons you should love this DIY beauty product is because: It saves money and you can customise your treatment! There are many products on the market that can be used as a pre-poo. Many of them are conditioners and some of them are oils like coconut, olive and grape seed. Peppermint oil is particularly beneficial for your hair and scalp as it stimulates your scalp by increasing blood circulation and therefore it promotes hair growth, while coconut oil nourishes, reduces hair fall and detangles.

Here is the simple recipe for an out-of-this-world pre-poo treatment (It’s hard to believe that with just two ingredients, you can deliver a blast of moisture to your scalp and hair):

Your two main ingredients:

  • Coconut oil: 2 tablespoons (or you can use olive oil)
  • Peppermint oil: 10 drops

Directions:

  • Remember you can be creative with your pre-poo. Allow your preferences, hair type, and hair needs to dictate what ingredients or products you pre-poo with.
  • Mix the coconut oil with drops of peppermint oil.
  • Depending upon your hair’s needs you can rotate between oils and conditioners.
  • Apply thoroughly from scalp to tips of your hair and leave on for 30 minutes.
  • OR you can also leave it on overnight for a more extreme conditioning treatment.

During this time give yourself a scalp massage for a couple of minutes to let the oil penetrate.

Your scalp will feel tingly and the smell is so refreshing. You will love the results.

Often times, not pre-pooing can be to blame for some of hair’s biggest problems like breakage, dryness, brittle ends, rough-feeling hair, and uncontrollable frizz. If your hair isn’t behaving or feeling quite like it used to, it may be time to incorporate pre-pooing into your hair wash day regimen.
