Luke Tibbetts murder accused found guilty

WESTBURY – The Tibbetts family is happy about the judgment given against Lindray Khakhu.

Lindray Khakhu has been found guilty of the murder of three-year-old Luke Tibbetts.

The judgment was handed down on 27 March at the High Court sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court.

“I am very happy that this is finally over and justice has prevailed. It has been a hard time for us but knowing that he will pay in jail for what he did makes me happy,” said Luke Tibbetts’s father Derrick Petersen.

Luke had been sitting on his mother’s lap in Westbury when a stray bullet hit him on the head.

“We can now move on with our lives. At least there were no interruptions during the whole trial,” he said.

Luke Tibbetts’ uncle Llewelyn Valentine cried in court when judgment was given.

Judge Matthew Klein said Khakhu was correctly identified at the five scenes mentioned in the judgment.

He was facing 18 criminal charges and he was also found guilty on five counts of attempted murder and on 10 counts of unlawful possessions of a firearm and ammunition. He was found not guilty of pointing a firearm.

“The evidence shows that the shooter had the intent to kill Alton Mooi and Shane Williams,” said Judge Klein in his ruling on the Mooi murder.

He had pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
