Restaurant gives back to community

MELVILLE – Local restaurant, Cafe De La Crème, gives back to the community by donating excess food to charity organisations.

Local restaurant Cafe De La Crème recently made a number of generous donations toward local charity organisations in and around the Meville and Auckland Park areas.

Store manager Alex De Freitas explained the reason behind these donations. “We are very happy to give back to the community. We’ve never made a point of boasting about the fact that we donate to charity. We tried to keep the charity focus quite local. We have donated to organisations like Hotel Hope Ministries, Jo’burg School for the Blind, and FreeFood SA,” she said.

De Freitas pointed out that the restaurant believes that it would be a sin to throw food away. “We try to make donations at least twice a week to various local charity organisations. It’s a nice way for us to get to know our community. We try to direct our customers and patrons to support these organisations,” she said.

Administrator at the Jo’burg School for the Blind Wendy Ntswane was optimistic about Cafe De La Crème donations toward their organisation. “We are extremely thankful for donations made from the restaurant. The food helped out a lot,” she said.

Logistics and Regional manager for FreeFood SA Jonh Madondo was very grateful for the recent donation made to them on 9 March. “These guys have been doing a wonderful job in assisting our cause. A lot of food was donated ranging from donuts, breads, sweet and savoury goods. Through this donation we can assist 10 local charities,” he said.

Founder and Director of Hotel Hope Ministries Oliver Quambusch was very impressed with donations made by Cafe De la Crème. “We are very grateful for the support we been receiving from local community institutions like Cafe De La Crème. Their donations have really helped us with our food expenses,” he said.

Quambusch pointed out that they have developed a wonderful partnership with the restaurant. “We maintain that every little helps and that food should never go to waste. By making these donations they have made sure that this virtue is honored,” he explained.

Quambusch encouraged local retailers to donate any excess food to their local charities. “I cannot emphasise how important it is for the community to support their local charities. Any donation, no matter how big or small, goes a long way,” he said.
