Roads agency apologises for ‘shoddy workmanship’

BLAIRGOWRIE – 'Slow' marking is painted too large and stretches into next lane.

The Johannesburg Roads agency has apologised for a poor paint job it did recently on Conrad Drive.

Two ‘slow’ markings on the road were made very large, and stretched into the next lane in Blairgowrie.

Following a complaint by Ward 102 councillor David Potter, the agency repainted the markings correctly on 16 February.

“It was poor workmanship,” confessed the agency’s spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers.

“We sincerely apologise for the substandard work which is in contravention with the JRA’s commitment to quality. The JRA managing director [Skhumbuzo Macozoma] has already reprimanded the responsible team as the shoddy workmanship is inexcusable.”

Peters-Scheepers encouraged residents to report similar issues to the agency so that it can hold its employees accountable, and continue improving its services to residents in the City of Johannesburg.

“The issue is that it was done so poorly,” Potter said.

He added that the mistake was made because of a lack of supervision and resources.

Potter was indignant that he had to complain to the agency before the mistake was corrected.
