Hiking group hold-up suspects apprehended

MELVILLE – Two suspects from the Melville Koppies hold-up have been apprehended by CSS Tactical.

Following the events of a group of 20 hikers being robbed at gun point on the Melville Koppies Nature Reserve on 18 January, CSS Tactical arrested two suspects who were involved in the robbery.

The two men were apprehended on the corner of 8th Avenue and Rustenburg Road in Melville, after they had robbed a woman of two cell phones and R500 cash while she was walking next to the Melville Koppies.

Managing director of CSS Tactical Ashleigh Parry said, “We commend our officers for making the two arrests as the security of the Melville Koppies remains a prime concern.”

A toy gun was recovered from the suspects; one other suspect is still at large.

Hikes on the Melville Koppies have been met with the utmost caution due to the increase of crime in that area.

Security has been increased on the Melville Koppies Nature Reserve, with the placement of a guard.

Any future planned hikes will be organised with an armed security escort organised by the Melville Koppies Association.
