Man Crush Monday: DJ C LIVE

LINDEN – He is not in Mzansi’s Top 10 sexiest men list or at least not yet, but his successful career as a DJ and TV producer has earned him a spot as our latest man crush.

DJ C Live is truly a force to be reckoned with.

His real name is Clive Shabalala and he holds one of the most important jobs in television.

C Live works as a producer for the Linden based Club 808.

“A producer is responsible for getting all the content for the show. We arrange the guests, inserts, decide what we are shooting. You have to understand the brand and the product you are dealing with.”

What he is not saying – because he is humble – is that producers actually make the show happen. Part of a producer’s responsibility is to write the script for the show. Support, says C Live, is of utmost importance.

“There are a lot of people I bounce ideas off and get advice from to make sure we have the best content,” he said.

According to C Live, a journalism qualification is helpful for those seeking to jump into this industry.

“I did not study for it, but I was a DJ, found myself doing shows on YFM and 5FM for a number of years and I got to be so involved in the industry, so much that I know what the industry is about and how to run a music show.”

When looking for producers, companies look for someone who knows the industry and has connections in the industry. But being connected does not come easy.

“It takes a lot of work, you have to isolate the industry and understand where you want to work. Go to the different media houses; ask the right questions about what you need to do and where to get experience.”

According to C Live, the biggest problem a producer faces, is artists not showing up but as a producer you have to brush people’s egos.

“We deal with a lot of artists and sometimes artists don’t show up. Sometimes we have to go to the guy’s hotel, wake him up and make sure he is done with whatever he wants to do – even if its brushing his teeth for two hours,” he said.

This Durbanite doesn’t believe he is actually 33 years old. Perhaps it is all the time he spends in the gym.
