UPDATE: No police investigation for mysterious car fire

BLAIRGOWRIE – Police will not investigate a car fire in Blairgowrie, as the owner did not open a case.

Linden Police have revealed that they will not investigate the car that caught fire and burned next to Conrad Drive, Blairgowrie, on 16 November.

This is because the Silver Renault Scenic’s owner refused to open a case, says Linden Police spokesperson Constable Carol Mulamu.

“No case was opened at the police station,” Mulamu says. “It is alleged that the vehicle owner refused to open a case. There was no one in the vehicle when the fire started. No one was injured.”

Thus the cause of the fire is still unknown, and may continue to be unless the owner comes forward.

Dealer Principal at Renault Bryanston, Chris Jordan, recently explained that Renault Scenics have a five-star Euro NCAP rating, which is the highest safety rating possible by international standards.

Despite this, initial reports claimed that the fire started out of the blue, with smoke first rising from the bonnet while the owner was still driving the vehicle. The owner parked the vehicle in a parking lot and stepped out before there was an “explosion” and it quickly burned to a little more than a crisp.
