Man Crush Monday: Mo Flava

LINDEN – Mo Flava tells Ancillar Mangena why he wears make-up, his most favourite interviewee and career on the set on Club 808 in Linden.

His looks are striking and his success astounding.

He is a music producer, celebrity DJ, radio and television personality and a bankable iconic star of this generation. He is Mo Flava – YFM DJ and Club 808 presenter.

Sedentary and poised while he had his face done, Mo Flava (real name Moeti Tsiki) revealed he only wears make-up when on set.

“Wearing make-up is the only thing I will do because I get paid for it. I only wear it when I am shooting for the show because of the dynamics of lighting in studio.”

Mo Flava has no clue what make-up he wears.

“My make-up artist is wonderful… she has been working with me for years and I have never asked her what she puts on me. I just go along with it and trust that she gives me what I need.”

According to this hunk, the Linden-based show has a massive pull factor with the audience because of the music they play.

“We also concentrate on the lifestyle side of things with the show, where we go out to parties and see what people are doing and capture the essence of [the] music and lifestyle scene in Africa. Because we speak to such a young audience, it is a really great show to be part of,” he says.

This blazing lad with a little bit of swag enjoys interviewing guests for his show, but there was one in particular that stood out from the rest.

“The best person anyone can ever interview, for me, is Dr Malinga, he brings out the essence of what people want to know about. He is funny, charismatic and interesting.”

Mo Flava began his career in radio.

According him, radio is about what you say and TV about how you say it.

“With TV you have to look authentic and sound authentic. If you are excited about something you have to look excited. With radio you may sound excited but not look excited, ” he says.

Showing his educated and intelligent side, he explains the advantages and disadvantages of the two media.

“TV is the bigger medium in terms of reach, footprint and numbers, but radio is more effective in terms of immediacy.”

The charismatic, talented personality enjoys working in radio compared to TV.

“Radio is more interesting. With TV, for example in a music show, you can only talk about music but with radio you can talk about anything from music to Ebola to Oscar Pistorius.

Although he generally spends Christmas with his family, Mo Flava has a bunch of events lined up for the festive season.

“I have numerous shows lined up and I also have a CD I dropped with Soul Candy called Soul Candy Sessions, I have songs in there that I have produced and I have an event planned for that.”
