Woman Crush Wednesday: Nonhle Thema

Linden – Nonhle Thema speaks career, music and motherhood with Ancillar Mangena on the set of Club 808 in Linden.

She is beautiful, charismatic, entertaining and a mother that deserves the Woman Crush Wednesday spot.

Nonhle Thema has been on TV since childhood keeping families entertained. She is also known for presenting music shows O-Boma and O-Access, both on Channel O.

After doing a lot of work in the television industry, Thema took a break before returning.

“Coming back to what I love, which is music, is the most exciting thing for me. I love music and I am excited I have had a lasting career. Even though I took a little bit of a break to have a child, I still come back to be in front of the camera,” she says.

She matriculated from Sandown High School in Sandton in 1999 and left home the same year. She later studied marketing before landing her first job as an events co-ordinator.

This music lover used to sing in high school, in a group called Trinity.

“I was like the Beyoncé of the group. I was in the middle with blonde hair, but now I hang in the back and just watch.”

The talented presenter enjoys some local talent such as Kid X, Casper Nyovest, Moneoa and AKA.

“My favourite artist is Chris Brown and his X album he just dropped is absolutely amazing.”

The most challenging part of her career is “having people have a say on your life and they have never met you, they don’t really know you, they just know of you… especially having people judge my flaws and make it seem like they don’t have any flaws”.

She says she had to learn to forgive those who judge them and also accept that people will always judge her.

While working as a presenter for Club 808, Thema has enjoyed conducting interviews with AKA, Trompies, Casper Nyovest and Lira.

“Since being on the show, I have been chatting with all my favourites and it has been lovely… I like talking to the legends such as TKZee because it is nice to go back and see where we are coming from.”

Talking about being a mother to Star Phoenix Ivy Zime, Thema says she feels like she has a little friend.

“It feels like I am her world. It is nice to have someone who just loves you unconditionally and does not care if mum is famous or about anything else that happens in the world”.
