Dollar Table Bar owner appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 5 November facing two charges.
He faces a charge of murder, following the brutal murder of rugby player Thulane Popoyi at his bar on 5 October.
The accused also faces a charge of defeating the ends of justice, after allegedly being uncooperative with the police following the discovery of the body.
The case was postponed to 12 November due to outstanding documents.
Moshapo appeared a day before the formal announced date.
“We were told he will appear at the Newlands Court on 6 November but he never appeared,” said Popoyi’s guardian Shawn van Zyl.
After spending over an hour at the Newlands Court, van Zyl was told the case is being held at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
Upon arrival, the prosecutor in charge of the case informed him that the case was heard on 5 November and a mistake had been made.
“ All we want right now is to understand who killed him and why because Thulane was a great guy who never fought with anyone, so what would make someone so anyone so angry that there would do such a thing to him, he said.
According to van Zyl there are numerous speculations about what happened to Popoyi.
“I really don’t know what happened but right now to my understand Sydney might have been a witness to the murder because we think that one of his bouncers killed him, there is no enough evidence but we need to know why someone would do something like that.”
Since this horrific incident, the family has been struggling to come to terms with what happened. Popoyi’s mother has been in and out of the doctor’s room.
