Linrand’s Mini Olympics turns out successful

LINDEN – About 250 children swim in gala for medals and ribbons.

The Linden Swimming Pool was full of noise and splashing when about 250 children swam in the 26th annual Linrand Mini Olympics on 26 October. The seats were packed as families of the swimmers screamed and shouted to support their children and siblings. The swimmers were all up to the age of 10 years old.

Ribbons were given to every swimmer, and medals and trophies were awarded to the winners in their age groups. The gala was hosted by the Linrand Swimming Club, which is based at the pool. “We had a good turnout,” said the club’s chairperson Conan Jones. “The children have swum well and we had a lot of parental involvement.”

He explained that between 50 and 60 parents helped with the marshalling, time keeping and trophy awarding. “The gala was a success,” said club committee member Beth Libby-Neale. “We had about 250 swimmers. They liked getting their medals and ribbons. The gala had a lovely vibe and atmosphere.”
