UJ Student reported missing

Another UJ student was reported missing by her family

A University of Johannesburg (UJ) student was reported missing by her family.

Zandile Kutlwano Zimu (20), a first year fine arts student at UJ’s Bunting Road Campus, disappeared without a trace after her father dropped her off at school at 7am.

Her twin sister Zama, confirmed that they were together in the morning before they were dropped off.

“They [her father and Zandile] dropped me off at Kingsway Campus and then dropped her off at Bunting road. However, later on I went to Bunting looking for her. I tried calling her but her phone was off so I just thought she was busy, but when I went to her faculty they said she never made it to class.”

Zama also informed that the family went to the university to get answers about her sister’s whereabouts. “Her student card reflected that she entered her faculty at about 8.20am and at 8.22am she left, she adds, “The student card then reported that at about 9.15am she entered the Kingsway Campus where she spent about 15 minutes.”

The family tried to open a missing person’s case at the Brixton Police Station but were referred to Sophiatown.

Her mother Rachel Zimu was very distraught and pleaded for her child to return home. “I wish she can just communicate with us, her phone is off and we are all very worried…there is no contact, no signal at all. The police are doing all they can, I just hope she can just come back to us,”said her worried mother.

Zandile Zimu is the third student from the university to go missing.

Her friends and family are hard at work, raising awareness on social media in hopes of finding her.

Last year, a final year B.Com student Palesa Madiba went missing while on her way to the Soweto Campus – A year later she is still missing.
