After constant power surges, cable theft and electricity problems in the suburb of Westdene, City Power spokesperson Sydney Mphahlele said that the department is actively working to rectify these problems.

“We are currently replacing substation’s wooden doors with steel doors and reinforcing their locking mechanisms to prevent vandalism in these areas,” Mphahlele said.

“We are also escalating incidents of theft and vandalism to our risk control department, and we’re intensifying patrols in the area.”

This department has recently partnered with Johannesburg Metro Police Department and the South African Police Service, and they’re working together to minimize theft.

The open cables and dust reported by residents of Aberdeen Sreet will be fixed soon, Mphahlele said.

“There is a City Power team in Aberdeen Street installing a medium voltage cable to strengthen the network. The project is about to be finished.”
