A treat for soup kitchen on Mandela Day

CLAREMONT - The Motor Industry Staff Association lends a helping hand to Fred and Martie's Soup Kitchen for their 67 Minutes.

The Motor Industry Staff Association (MISA) in Northcliff will offer a helping hand to Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen in Claremont on Mandela Day (18 July).

According to Gabby Venter and Anel Strydom, who are co-ordinators of the Young Workers Forum for MISA, the event will be part of the association’s social responsibility and contribution toward the 67 minutes on Mandela Day.

“We will be sponsoring a meal for 500 people, as well as treat packets and 90 blankets. People living in this community are extremely poor,” said Venter.

She added that beneficiaries of the soup kitchen will get up and do their bit on Mandela Day by cleaning up the environment around them and the rubbish that is collected will be sorted to the soup kitchen as they are in the process of starting a new recycling project.

“There will be seven teams going into the streets of Claremont with 85 members in a team. The team that collects the most rubbish will be awarded with a warm winter blanket each sponsored by MISA,” she added.

She also said that MISA staff will be painting and doing the general maintenance with the 10 litres of paint donated by The Paint Emporium based on Beyers Naudé Drive.
