The end of puffy eyes

Say goodbye to puffy eyes with simple home remedies.

There are many causes of puffy eyes – fluid retention, stress, allergies, hormone changes, crying and water retention, lack of sleep or excessive alcohol intake.

However there are some easy ways to avoid puffy eyes;

• Avoiding rubbing your eyes; apply cold compresses when itching occurs.

• Avoid irritants such as smoke.

• Avoid allergens when possible.

• Drink plenty of water to avoid water retention and to keep your body cleansed.

• Increase your vitamin intake.

• Avoid excessive amounts of alcohol, especially before bed.

• Avoid or limit sodium (salt) when possible.

However, if you do find yourself still suffering from puffy eyes, try these all natural, soothing remedies;

• The old-age remedy of placing a cool cucumber slice over each eye for 10 to 15 minutes has been and is still a very good remedy. Due to a cucumber’s high water content and natural anti-inflammatory properties, it is the best natural choice.

• Vitamin C is a great cure for puffy eyes, so try this orange juice mixture. Mix orange juice and glycerine. Dab some of the mixture on your eyes at least three times a week. Soon after, the appearance around the eyes will noticeably improve.

• Households always have tomatoes in the kitchen. Tomato paste is among the best concoctions to treat puffy eyes. You will need fresh tomatoes, some lemon juice, a small amount of turmeric powder and flour. Spread some of the mixture around the eyes and allow it to stay for the next 10 to 15 minutes. Do this treatment on a daily basis and results will be apparent in time.

• Try grate or mash half a cold potato and place the paste on each eye for 10 minutes. Be aware though that potato does have a strong smell and keeping the grated potato on your face maybe challenging so you will need to sit very still during this treatment.

• Using green teabags is a simple, non-messy, refreshing remedy that will tighten up the skin around your eyes. Steep two green tea bags in a small container and put the container in the refrigerator until cool, then place a teabag on each eye for 10 to 15 minutes.

• Milk is common for treating eye puffiness, and is also known to create a look of brighter eyes. All you need to do is soak a cotton ball or pad in cold milk and place over each eye for 10 to 15 minutes.

Remember to be careful with the above remedies with sensitive eyes as foods contain bacteria that may cause an infection.
