Power cuts disappoint football fans

WESTDENE - Sudden power cuts disappointed local football fans on 16 June.

Large parts of Johannesburg were left without power shortly before Germany clashed with Portugal in Brazil on 16 June.

The effect of power cuts seems increasingly to pervade people’s daily lives –and worse– affect major events like the World Cup.

The worst feeling a football fan can experience is missing their favourite teams play.

Westdene resident, Jeanrique Snyman was looking forward to the Germany and Portugal game and was left unimpressed with City Power after he missed the game.

Snyman said he felt let down by City Power for not warning him about the possible power cuts in advance.

“I am a sports fanatic, and I am disappointed because I had anticipated the Germany and Portugal game,” he said

Snyman said he was informed that the SABC in Auckland Park was also affected.

City Power spokesperson Sol Masolo reiterated that what happened was not load shedding.

“We had equipment failure, and we were also not expecting it,” he said.

“However, we did send people to fix the problem.”

Snyman regretted not having gone to view the game at the German School.

The German School in Milpark had a public football viewing and was not affected by the power cut.

The next Germany games will be on the 21 and 26 June.
