My trip to the zoo

I was so surprised at how much I enjoyed my recent trip to the Joburg Zoo.

From start to finish it was an amazing experience. Although I have been to the zoo before, it’s been a few years and I’d forgotten how much fun it is. I didn’t think that it was so popular, but there were plenty of parents with their children, couples and groups of friends strolling around enjoying the scenery and the animals.

I literally felt like I was miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is actually mind-blowing to think that just a few kilometers away from the city, there are wild animals roaming around in their enclosures.

I most enjoyed seeing the chimpanzees (not because I’m related to them or anything) and the elephants. But most of all I enjoyed being outside in the sunshine, something most of us don’t really do anymore.

With 55 hectares of land to explore and 320 species of animals, totaling about 2000 animals, the zoo is the perfect family outing without the giant price tag.

This trip also inspired me to try different things, things that will get me out of my comfort zone and off the couch. I’d like to try abseiling next or maybe even river rafting (although it might be a little chilly this time of the year).
