Stop eating food that’s bad for you

LINDEN - Professor Time Noakes, co-author of the famous 'Real Meal Revolution" will be speaking at a seminar at Gourmet Cheese cafe in Linden on 3 June.

“People are killing themselves,” Zelda Gould doesn’t mince her words when it comes to health and nutrition. “There are more diseases than ever before these days, particularly auto-immune diseases. Our consumer society demands that produce has to be grown faster. Everything is about money. And we’re ingesting chemicals that are lethal to us in the long run.”

Gould, one of the organisers of Stop Sugarcoating the truth is thrilled to host the nutritional guru who needs no introduction – Professor Tim Noakes. Noakes, co-author of the nutrition book everyone is talking about, The Real Meal Revolution, will be sharing the floor with a host of health-experts, including Karen Thomson, founder of HELP, Dr Gail Ashford and Rael Koping, a registered dietitian. The event will take place at the Cheese Gourmet Cafe in Linden on 3 June.

“Professor Noakes is so excited about this event. And of course, we’re really happy to have him – having Tim in Johannesburg isn’t an every-day occurrence,” Gould said.

“The idea behind this seminar is to get people to eat more ‘real food.’ And to stop them eating the foods that are bad for them. For instance, sugar has the same effect on your brain as cocaine does.”

The venue for the event was chosen carefully.

“We chose to host it at the Gourmet Cheese Café in Linden, because they’ve always been on board with Noakes’ famous Banting diet, and where possible, they use home-grown local produce in their food,” Gould said.

Gourmet Cheese Cafe has also recently won an Eat Out award for Outstanding Outlet in South Africa, and will be providing snacks and food at the event.

“We’re so chuffed about the award,” Jo Dick, one of the co-owners of the popular Linden establishment enthused.

“And our customers are equally excited.”

The cafe opened nine and a half years ago, and local produce and consistently good food has always been its selling point.

Dick has been following the Banting-diet herself. “I feel amazing. I’m so energized. My aches and pains are gone,” she said.

Those who are interested in attending the event can sms or email Zelda Gould on 071 4712458. Tickets cost R1 200 per person for a full-day health conference. The first three people who contact Gould to attend the event will receive 50 percent discount on their tickets.
