Tatt it up for Childhood Cancer Foundation

JOBURG - The third annual Tattoo-a-thon for Childhood Cancer Foundation (Choc) South Africa will make its international debut and will run concurrently with the South African event on 6 June.

THIS year’s Tattoo-a-thon goes international and aims to raise R750 000 for a children’s cancer charity.

The third annual Tattoo-a-thon for Childhood Cancer Foundation (Choc) South Africa will make its international debut and will run concurrently with the South African event on 6 June.

Choc is a nationwide organisation that provides holistic support for children suffering from cancer and life-threatening blood disorders.

Project co-ordinator for the event Jordan Gray said, “The overseas interest in the Tattoo-a-thon from the past two years’ events clearly indicates that this event is wanted on the international stage. And we have therefore invited several studios to join in this year.”

Studios based in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, East London and Pietermaritzburg will host the event.

The Tattoo-a-thon will feature talented tattoo artists from top studios in South Africa such as Wildfire Tattoos, Electric Eye, Metal Machine, and Fallen Heroes.

“All tattoos will be a set size based on an hour’s work, and will cost only R700,” said Manuela Gray, co-founder and owner of Wildfire Tattoos in Long Street, Cape Town.

Temporary tattoos will also be available for those who do not want permanent ink and will cost R10 each.

According to Choc’s event co-ordinator Sophie Ndhlovu, Choc’s goal is to improve the welfare and quality of care for children with cancer.

“As a non-profit organisation, Choc relies heavily on the generosity of individuals and some caring companies, as well as fundraising projects such as the Tattoo-a-thon, which are essential in generating much-needed funds,” she said.

“These vital funds allow Choc to continue providing support to the children and their families, and above all, to help them keep more than hope alive.”

She encourages everyone to find the participating tattoo studio in their area and support Choc.

Participants can book their tattoo directly with the tattoo studio and can visit the event website to choose an artist of their choice.
