Every baby deserves a car seat

NEW CLARE - Wheel Well and Cartrack send every baby home in a car seat.

The mothers of 36 newborns at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital went home with a baby car seat thanks to the non-profit organisation Wheel Well and stolen vehicle recovery company Cartrack.

The gift of protection to the new mothers puts the spotlight on children in the car and encourages awareness in a bid to make parents proactive to the potential dangers of travelling with a small child.

“We take so much care to deliver a baby and they are so vulnerable so we should ensure they are protected when travelling in cars and taxis as much as we can,” said Peggy Mars, founder of Wheel Well. She explained that not being properly secured in a car seat was the leading cause of death for children of all ages in a vehicle accident.

CEO of the hospital, Susan Jordaan thanked the organisations profusely and said the gesture was a great way for the newborns to start their lives.

“We deliver 30 to 35 babies each day and they come from all over Gauteng,” she said. “We never turn anyone away. For Cartrack and Wheel Well to give car seats to mothers who are so poor is one bright day in what we hope are many more milestones in their lives.”
