Toughest race in Joburg conquered

GREENSIDE - Enthusiasts took to the streets to complete the 21Km half marathon hosted by Pirates Running Club.

The toughest race in Johannesburg was conquered by many an eager runner.

The annual 21km half marathon was hosted by Greenside’s Pirates Running Club and saw a multitude of runners ascend the steep Northcliff Hill and make their way through surrounding suburbs.

The winning man Tiisetso Ramokheseng and woman Kim Laxton completed the race in an impressive 1:09:44 and 1:24:43 respectively.

Siyabonga Makhlaloza and Odwa Tumyiswa finished second and third behind Ramokheseng, while Laxton was closely followed by Tebogo Masehla and Mary-Anne Niewoudt.

Other categories included Veteran Men and Women, Masters Man and Women as well as Junior Man and Women.

Johannes Kekana and Heather Walden emerged victorious in the Veteran Men and Women categories.

David Khosa and Ansa Strydom led the group in the Masters Men and Women category, while Armand Burger was crowned the Junior Man winner with no recorded woman counterpart.

Candidates who weren’t able to scoop the number one position have until next year’s half marathon to up their game.
