Matric results countdown

JOBURG- The agonising wait for thousands of matric pupils is nearly over as the 2013 National Senior Certificate matric results will be released on 7 January.

According to the Department of Basic Education, pupils will be able to access their results on its website (www.education.gov.za) and can visit their school or examination centre to collect their statement of results.

The results of 576 490 full time and 130 646 part time registered matriculants will be printed in major newspapers and accessed across various online media platforms, as well as via SMS on the morning of 7 January.

Matriculants can receive their results by registering on the SABC Education SMS service by sending their ID number and exam number to 35658.

SMSes cost R3.

Pupils who failed two or more subjects are eligible to register for supplementary examinations, which will take place in February.

Angie Motshekga, the Minister of Basic Education, will release the overall 2013 national matric results and pass percentage this evening.

According to the Department of Education, the results have been “under lock and key” until Motshekga makes them public today.

The results of pupils who wrote matric exams through the Independent Examinations Board in 2013 were released on 31 December.

Nine thousand five hundred and eighty full time and 586 part time candidates from 185 schools wrote the board’s matric exams in 2013 and achieved a 98.5 percent pass rate.
