The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds over Gauteng. The scattered bouts of stormy weather may hit after 1pm and stay for three or four hours.
Joburgers will remember when a freak storm hit the suburbs on 8 November last year. There were reports of hail stones the size of golf balls. Insurance companies reported an increase in consumers claiming on goods destroyed in that hail storm shortly after the storm.
Residents are advised to take precautions to make sure you and your valuables are in a safe place.
The South African Weather Service will issue another update at 4 pm.
