AUCKLAND Park-based production company Quizzical Pictures has a new project in the pipeline and NMT reporters were there to add to the drama.

Quizzical Pictures is currently filming a new Afrikaans television drama series called Swart Water, to be aired on SABC 2.

The occasion arguable set a precedent when it comes to the collaboration of a local production company, a local broadcasting corporation and a local newspaper in producing a series episode.

“Swart Water is about a Johannesburg couple who experience a traumatic event and escape to a small town to get away from it all,” said Swart Water’s production manager Marlaine Tosoni.

NMT reporters were invited to act as journalists during the filming of the husband’s trial which was set at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on Fox Street.

“In this episode there are a few journalists and we were hoping to have real journalists assist us as their mannerisms and actions are more convincing than asking someone who has never done the job to pretend,” Tosoni explained.

The reporters gained first-hand experience on how much it takes to act in a television series, while the other actors cast as journalists received a crash course on being journalists.

Swart Water, which stars Louw Venter and Jana Strydom as husband and wife, premieres on 21 January 2014, on SABC 2.
