Zombies unite in charity

Mark’s Park hosts World Zombie Day

Zombie Run South Africa hosted their first World Zombie Day pub run on 12 October. Over 70 undead creatures gathered at Mark’s Park Sports Club and made their way through surrounding streets, moaning and grunting at pedestrians and motorists and stopping at various pubs to enjoy some zombie

socialising.

World Zombie Day is an international event and the first ever Zombie Walk began in Pittsburgh at the site where George Romero filmed Dawn of the Dead. Since then, zombies the world over come together in various cities across the globe for a Zombie Run to unite not only in their hunger for human flesh, but to raise funds for a worthy cause.

Although dead and thus without emotion, unbelievably our local zombies have a heart for animal welfare, and the five km run on 12 October was in aid of local animal charity Santa Cause for Paws. In addition to a small fee, zombies were asked to bring a donation of food, blankets or toys. Mark's Park club manager Gareth Passmore was delighted the sports club hosted the run. “It was a fantastic event. Zombies and charity, what could be better?”

Altogether the collection totalled a whopping 50kg of dry food, multiple tins,

blankets and collars.

More than 50 cities worldwide participate in World Zombie Day, including New York, London, Paris and Hong Kong.
