A quickstep towards our hearts with Kallie Adams

The dance studio owner and ballroom dancer extraordinaire leaves little confusion as to why he loves dance.

Even with a dance career that spans 30 years, Kallie Adams remains light on his feet as he commands any stage he finds himself on.

A learning disability made life in the classroom a challenge for him, but nothing came more naturally to him much like the ability to dance did, from when he was about 13 years old, after having been introduced to it through someone dear in his life. “The confidence it brought me was the greatest attraction.”

Dance allows for a sense of freedom from everyday battles of life as it affords him the liberty to be who he is with no judgements. Along with this, there is the feeling of control too as he gets to create the next step.

It was through an opportunity to study ballroom in the States, that this Albertsville resident perfected his dance moves. Two of his favourite ballroom styles are the quickstep and jive. He finds the characters of these dances to be lively and full of energy, which allows him to express the greatest of joys in those moments.

“Dance has changed my way of living in a positive manner despite my everyday circumstances. Above all, it has been the greatest success in my life and the privilege to help the less fortunate through dance has been the greatest impact,” said Adams.

Through the years he has taken part in a great many competitions, however, his favourites have to have been Rumba in the Jungle and the South African Championships as they are the biggest events in the dance industry. Here all the dance federations gather at one venue and competitors dance under one umbrella.

This sport has drawn out of Adams ambition he never knew he had within him. “It showed me just how capable I am at making my dream a reality.” It’s this ambition one can assume he will use to achieve his final goal of achieving national colours, which would then allow him to represent the country in Blackpool, UK, which he has described as the mecca of the dance world.
