Bowlers give their all at Linden’s annual winter tournament

Bowlers give their all at annual winter tournament for R10 000 prize.

Linden Bowling Club’s annual winter tournament finished with some fiery action on June 24.

The tournament saw 16 teams of four battle it out every Saturday during June, culminating in an intense and much-invested conclusion.

In the end, Proteas bowler Morgan Muvhango led his team to the win, walking away with a R10 000 prize.

Club president Marc Haley said the tournament had been running for more than 40 years. The teams are mixed so that each must have one player of the opposite gender. Teams can be made up of players from their clubs or players from other clubs.

“The quality of bowls was very high, as we had one current and two past Proteas players as well as numerous current provincial players from Johannesburg Bowls Association and Sables Bowls Association participating,” Haley said.

“The atmosphere was great with music in the background. I wanted the bowlers to enjoy the tournament and participate with a will to win.”

Haley thanked Seef Properties for sponsoring the tournament as without sponsorship he said it was difficult for clubs to host tournaments these days.

Next up, Linden Bowling Club will be one of the venues for the Gauteng Open in July in which bowlers from all over the province will compete for glory.
