King David Victory Park one-act plays dazzle on prestigious festival stage

Two original plays were showcased at the Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Art.

King David Victory Park recently showcased two original plays at the Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts (Feda).

The first play, Under the Fence, was co-written by Keren Katzew, a creative alumnus from the Class of 2022, and was directed by Grade 11 learner, Samuel Bonner. Described as captivating, this one-act production, featured what is said to have been a stellar cast from Grade 9. It paid homage to Katzew’s grandfather as it brought his memoirs to life. Its triumph at last year’s Arts and Culture festival earned the play an exclusive entry into the highly coveted Feda.

Our Mind is Our Poison was their second original one-act play, and it was written and directed by the talented Grade 11 learner, Shira Ephron. It is said to have explored the depths of the human psyche in a gripping psychological thriller. Through its exploration of perception and the consequences of our thoughts, the play captivated the audience, leaving them in awe of the young playwright’s brilliance.

According to the school’s Nirvan Rogers, Feda provided an invaluable platform for these aspiring artists to showcase their original works and express their boundless creativity. “Spectators marvelled at the talent displayed by the school and the other participating schools, witnessing the remarkable growth of the festival over the years.”

She also said that gratitude permeated the hearts of the school’s learners as they seized the opportunity to share their exquisite creations with the audiences. “Feda not only provided a stage for their artistic expression but also nurtured their passion for the dramatic arts. Forever cherishing this unforgettable experience, the learners found solace in knowing that their voices had been heard and their stories had resonated with the hearts of those who had witnessed their performances.”
