Höerskool Linden’s major production is the first of its kind for the school

Höerskool Linden recently let the talent found at school speak for itself as it showcased its major production.

Two is definitely better than one and no one knows this as well as Höerskool Linden who recently hosted their major production Two is better than Uno.

The play, which was showcased at the Roodepoort Theatre, follows what happens at an annual Uno championship that has learners from across the city gather. During this in the midst of this competitive energy, friendships are formed, mischief happens and good memories are etched in minds. The resounding message cast and production hoped audiences got for the play was that life is beautiful, two is always better than one and there are always second chances in life.

According to the school’s marketing liaison Ané Groenewald, work on the production started in November last year. “The play was a newly written one, with new music that was composed and written for the play. On a logistical level, a lot of planning went into having all the learners participate in the production.”

The school’s goal behind the play was to achieve great unity and camaraderie among the learners. Groenewald said it was great to give learners the opportunity to discover some hidden talents and show them off. Though smaller more intimate scale plays had been put together before, a production at this level, that had all learners, including some staff take part, had never been.

Putting on a play of this size was not without its challenges. Groenewald said it was tough for them to ensure that they had enough balance between rehearsals, sports and academics. Another challenge was to make sure all 700 participants took the theatre’s stage.

“The play was received exceptionally well by the audience,” said Groenewald. Some audience members are said to have said it was sweet and heartwarming with lots of colour and fun. Others only described it as ‘an exceptional production’ and ‘a feel-good show.’
