UJ students develop an au pair app
A team of four UJ students defies the odds by developing an App to help parents safely choose nannies to look after their children.
A team of UJ student software developers called TopDawg Devs is building an app which will assist babysitters with finding jobs and parents to choose their preferred candidates.
The team of Bong Musa Dube, Charles Pato, Lehlohonolo Nkwane, and Teboho Sello has named the app, Sittr.
“The project aims to revolutionise the process of finding childcare providers, including au pairs, babysitters, and daycares, by addressing the significant inefficiencies that currently exist in the market,” said Dube.
“Parents seeking childcare providers face a similarly challenging process, limited to either scouring social media groups for low-cost, low-credibility candidates or engaging with expensive babysitting agencies that may be beyond their budget.”
To address these challenges, Top Dawg Devs told Northcliff Melville Times that the app aims to streamline the process for childcare providers to find jobs while providing parents with a convenient and easy way to find their preferred applicant.
According to the group, Sittr distinguishes itself from other apps by providing a visually appealing and intuitive user interface.
“We plan to incorporate innovative features such as in-app payments, a rating system, and real-time tracking of au pairs, babysitters and nannies,” said Nkwane.
“Additionally, we plan to implement a comprehensive background check mechanism to establish trust between all parties involved.”
Top Dawg Devs is hoping to get support from UJ lecturers and potentially even the government in due course.
