Let’s get to know Jenny Duffy
One local reader shares what she loves about her community and how she hopes to impact those around her.
Jenny Duffy thinks she might be best known for being a bossy- boots in her community.
Be that as it may in her opinion, at least she isn’t afraid to get those boots dirty too. She sees it as vital to get involved and make a difference.
Duffy has lived in her community for about 25 years with her family. In those years she has come to love the tree-lined roads, especially when the Jacaranda trees are in bloom. ” I love the parks and greenbelts we have all around us -Delta Park, Emmarentia Gardens and the Braamfontein Spruit are such wonderful spaces for the community to enjoy.”
She has found there is nothing that her community can’t give. Here, her love of a wide choice of restaurants and coffee shops are the perfect accompaniment to the day, “I enjoy a run and coffee with my friends most weekday mornings. I enjoy going out for dinner and ordering takeaways from the local restaurants.” She added her dogs love a walk at Emmarentia Dam and being home to entertain family and friends.
When she is getting those ‘bossy boots’ dirty you can find her volunteering her time and encouraging others to do the same. “We shouldn’t sit back and wait for someone else to do something.” What Jenny is absolutely sure about is that she lives in a wonderfully diverse community that support each other, especially through our country’s current challenges. “There is always someone offering a hot shower, freezer space and a charging station when neighbours have extended periods of power or water outages. Our community enjoys the outdoors and are often found cycling, jogging or walking around the neighbourhood. “
Jenny hopes to impact her those around through kindness, “We can be good neighbours who support initiatives aimed at improving those around us.”
