Northcliff High School – Headmaster’s Report 2022

As head of the school, Walter Essex-Clark sent through this overview of the year along with wishes for a peaceful and happy festive season.

Walter Essex-Clark, headmaster of Northcliff High School writes:

All is well at the foot of Northcliff Hill and our school has been blessed with a copious supply of rain, evident in our lush green sports fields and gardens. Within this theme of growth and abundance, our goal for the year was to do everything possible to ensure that Northcliff High School builds on its past successes as a school.

We decided to hit the ground running after the pandemic years. Not only did this work well for us as a school, but we seem to have come back even stronger than before. All in all, it’s been a very successful year for Northcliff High School, with our dedicated teachers and coaches pushing themselves and their students to reach even greater levels of achievement.

We have enjoyed some excellent achievements in the academic and cultural spheres and once again we have prevailed in the sporting arena with some momentous victories in A-league swimming and A-league athletics.

We held our largest Debs and Squires ball ever on October 21, an event that looks set to be surpassed in 2023 with the new group of Debs and Squires already putting on a very successful Christmas Market on December 2.

The matric Class of 2022 set the bar very high and had a smooth run with the exams. On the whole we have been pleased with the content of the papers and look forward to this group of matriculants following in the footsteps of their fellow alumni as they set out into the world.

This year’s valediction was held in October and was followed by the matric breakfast and first-ever ‘Matric Farewell Parade’ the next morning.

One of the major contributing factors toward the success of this school is due to the support we receive from the entire school community.

Every year presents new challenges for our school, and it is a source of strength to know that Northcliff has such a large and enthusiastic support base.

On behalf of the staff and pupils thank you to all parents for their support this year, and for your dedication to the school.

May I take this opportunity to wish you and your families a wonderful festive season and everything of the best for the new year. I look forward to an even better 2023.
