Fundraiser for elderly couple injured in Greymont in March after a terrible accident

Jack and Dolly Gitelson lost their car and incurred medical expenses they are unable to afford.

Fundraiser for an elderly couple who were injured and whose car was destroyed, after falling into a massive excavation hole in the road in Greymont.

Jack Gitelson and his wife Dolly, both 75, suffered serious injuries, the loss of their car and emotional stress following the incident in March. The excavation hole was due to the City replacing a water pipe that had been leaking. Jack was driving his Toyota Tazz along Long Road in Greymont and drove into the hole to avoid a head-on collision.

Dave Cohen, a local DJ and entertainer, has started an online fundraiser to try and help the Gitelsons with a new car and additional support they need because of their injuries.

They have suffered a massive loss in income due to the incident, and are behind in their rent, which Cohen hopes the fundraiser will help with. Dolly has been further injured by a dog attack which required hospitalisation further complicating their situation.

The car was virtually wallowed by the massive excavation hole.

Cohen said, “My hope is to restore some dignity and their health and overall well-being. They are a wonderful loving couple who have been married for 51 years. Jack thankfully has an incredible sense of humour and wit, and Jack still performs with his French horn in a quintet and has been part of various orchestras and symphonies. Dolly has been an avid fundraiser over the years. Sadly, the two incidents have severely impacted them financially, especially after the Covid shutdowns of the past two years.”

The Gitelson’s car was written off following the accident.
