Students speak about UJ Bunting Campus arsonist

Some the student voice their frustrations at actions of a suspect who burned down a office block at the institution.

Recently, a suspect was arrested for arson at the University of Johannesburg Bunting Campus office block.

The suspect allegedly poured petrol over the office furniture and set it alight while warning personnel to get out of the office building. Though this suspect will face the law for his actions, those heavily affected by his actions were not only the two employees who had to be rushed to the hospital for smoke inhalation but the students and staff who use the facility.

A few students on the campus shared their opinions on the matter…

SANDILE MABUZA: It is shocking learning of the fire that occurred at the UJ office for privately owned student accommodation. The suspect could have tried to resort to other channels of addressing the problem at hand because closure of the office will impact a lot of other people. He could have rather taken the institution to court to further address his issue.
KARABO MALOKA: It’s quite ridiculous if I may say. Question is why? Like what was the reason? If it was accidental, it would’ve been understandable but what that suspect did is just unforgivable and uncalled for.
