Fairland CPF invites community to fundraising market

By supporting your CPF, you help fight crime.

Crime reduction activities in any community are intrinsically linked to having a functioning and dedicated Community Policing Forum (CPF).

A CPF is an official link between residents and the police, a relationship that is critical for both parties. Mike Styer, public relations officer of the Fairland CPF, says he and the other volunteers do all they can to ‘support the police and ensure that our community remains a safe one’.

Each station has a Victim Support Unit where victims of sexual abuse, children and vulnerable adults are seen when they experience crime or trauma related to crime.

This is something the Fairland CPF take pride in supporting as it is such a vital service offered at the police station. Styer said, “Our station is by no means perfect, but we have a great working relationship with its members and have the full support and backing of the station commander [Lieutenant Colonel Clive] de Freitas.”

The CPF is constantly thinking of imaginative ways to raise funds that support their work and help the station. The latest is their autumn market where the community is invited to sell their wares and enjoy a lovely family day.

The dog-friendly market in Market Street Park, Fairland opens at 09:00 on May 29.

Representatives from the CPF and Fairland SAPS will be in attendance. Styer hopes the public will come and engage with them and hopefully grow their volunteer base and receive some much-needed donations.

When asked what the station needed, Styer said, “The customer services centre needs an upgrade to improve the communities experience when interacting with the police and being able to ensure the ongoing functioning of the station when utilities re not available.”
