How Northcliff High School plans to get you Footloose

The school wants you to kick off your Sunday shoes and head on over to see their annual production.

It’s that time of the year again when Northcliff High School’s annual production is set for the stage.

Just like in previous years, audiences can expect nothing more than to be wowed by the school’s talented young thespians.

The production’s opening night is May 22 at 19:00, and subsequent running days are May 23, 25, 26, and 27 at the same time, with the final show on May 28 at 19:30.

Director, Nic Jourdan has been involved with the school’s musical productions for 40 years. He explained that Footloose The Musical, is based on the film which revolves around a young man’s move from Chicago to a small town.

There he reintroduces music and dance to the community after it was banned for many years. “It’s a wonderful and uplifting story with singing, dancing and a real theme, as opposed to a more fantasy-based productions.”

Jourdan also shared that because of Covid-19 restrictions, the school has been preparing for this show since 2019, with the current cast performing together since September last year.

One of the play’s leads, Alexi Haswell, who plays Aerial, said she is enjoying the freedom that comes with playing a character who is so outgoing, “She is truly not afraid to be herself.”

Her fellow lead, Lyndan Meyers, who hopes to become an actor, will play the role of Ren McCormack. Lyndan has had fun portraying someone who is the type of guy that just wants to have a good time with his friends, dance, and let loose.

Other leads to look out for are Angelica Rennie, playing Rusty and Owen Pace, playing Willard Hewitt.
