Linden police call for pedestrian vigilance

Pedestrians fall victim to sexual coercion.

Linden Police Station urges pedestrians to refrain from interacting with strangers.

This comes after a pedestrian fell victim to forcible acts of sexual coercion, while walking on Valley Road in Robinhills.

The pedestrian was signaled by a motorist in a silver Mercedes Benz, which was parked on the side of the road. The motorist is described as a white male in his 30s with a slim body physique, grey hair and blue eyes.

According to the station’s Sergeant Takalani Sibiya, the pedestrian was called to the driver’s side and asked for directions – it was while giving directions, the driver pointed a firearm in their direction.

“The pedestrian noticed that the man in question had his pants down while he was seated in his car and was holding his private part in his other hand. With the firearm still pointed in the pedestrian’s direction, the driver ordered the pedestrian to get in on the passenger side,” said Sibiya.

Once traffic began to build the sexual predator hurriedly drove away.

Sibiya added that this is not the first incident of its kind reported to the station. “In most cases suspects target schools. They will go and park their cars and wait for the schoolchildren, mostly the ones that are walking home after school. They will ask to offer them transport home and that’s when they will get chances to kidnap them.”

With their strategy being to lure the child toward the car, show them their private parts, then offer them money should they get into the car.
The police plead with schoolchildren to practice walking in groups when commuting home after school and reject any transport offers from strangers.
