Linden Police Station’s garden gets a spruce

LINDEN – Local pre-schools head up the cleaning of the Linden Police Station garden.

The Linden Police Station’s garden is getting the attention it needs thanks to the green fingers of community members.

On February 24, principal of Little Ashford Linden, Andy Swanepoel along with Little Ashford Sandton’s principal, Corne Logan, went through to the station with their gardeners Francis and Thomas to begin work on the garden.

Fellow principals from Little Ashford Bryanston and Florida Hills ensured they had extra gardening tools as well as black bags to place all the debris in.

“This is a very important project as it will not only allow us to develop the Memorial Garden to pay tribute to all our communities’ fallen heroes, but it will also ensure better visibility and security for the Linden SAPS,” said Swanepoel.

She added the area also houses bunnies and chickens and, once all is cleaned up and maintained, they would like to look at opening a picnic area for the community in the gardens. “The station also does the most incredible on-site tours of their facilities for children and their talks are informative and so much fun.”

In Swanepoel’s opinion, Linden SAPS and CPF are true unsung heroes who do so much for the community that many people are not aware of. “I am hopeful that by starting this project, we will not only ensure that their memorial garden looks incredible but we will be providing the opportunity for the community members to get to know their local SAPS and CPF and build strong relations with them.”

They will go to the station every second Thursday and, they could use as much community support as possible as it is a large piece of land to work on, and while the current gardener is said to be doing a great job, they need manpower as well as extra tools and materials.

If there is anyone willing to come and assist on February 10, and every second Thursday thereafter, contact Andy Swanepoel at andys@littleashford.co.za or 084 411 4297.
